CHARLEVOIX — Michigan Supreme Court Justice Richard Bernstein, attorney and advocate for people with disabilities, has a vision of what the world could be, despite having never seen it.

In late August, Justice Bernstein was in Northern Michigan for a long weekend visiting friends in Walloon Lake, as he often does. Every morning of his stay he has a tradition: He wakes with the sun and treks for six hours and walks more than 17 miles on the Little Traverse Wheelway from Petoskey to Charlevoix along the Lake Michigan shoreline.

“I can’t think of anything more gorgeous, even though I can’t see it, I can totally sense it, I am walking right by the lake,” Bernstein said as he walked the wheelway recently.
